I would like to say first off that I have delt with many different jails and prisons up and down the east coast over the years, and Volusia county Florida is one of the worst that I have ever had to deal with!!!!! The COs at this place are a joke they plant items in inmates cells, they talk to the inmates like they have no rights or anything. The last time that I checked you are innocent until proven guilty!!! Well that is not the case at this facility!!! They were starting to make a good come around when Warden Smith was there, but since he left they are going right back to their old unjust ways!!!! Yes I understand that you can not take all inmates word as true just like you can not take all COs SGTs LTs or CPTs word as true!! But when you talk to 2 or 3 different inmates at different times and you get the same story then I am going to take their word for it!!! I have personal heard Officers of different levels talk to inmates using racial terms, talk to inmates as if they have no rights, I have even heard them provoke inmates to try to get them to lash out so they could put them in the box or DR them!!! I have seen them mess with inmates by lying on them, move them all around the jail multiple moves in one day, lock the block down then lie to family and friends who call asking questions by telling them I don't know why they are not calling because they are calling other people when it was not true!!! I have seen them leave people waiting in their lobby to talk to someone in charge for hours as in 2+ hours and then laugh about it. Then if the families starts demanding answers they will threaten the inmates They Open MAIL that is marked LEGAL MAIL!!!! And then refuse to give it to the inmate because they see something that they don't know what it is and say that its not LEGAL MAIL and then say you don't need mail coming from A law office when you have a PD!!!! They do not protect inmates privacy!!! They will lie to inmates about other inmates charges to cause problems on the unit!!! They think they get to say when an inmate gets medical treatment when an inmate is prescribed certain things all because they get to decide that they know an inmates body more and better than the own inmate!!!!! Everything they do at this jail is against the inmates rights!!!! Just because someone is locked up does NOT mean they don't have rights!!!! I have even heard a CO tell inmates "You have no rights and if you don't like it then don't come to jail." That is not acceptable and that is not right!!!!Well I have news for everyone if you start fighting for your loved ones that are on the inside thing would start to change because there are people out here that will stand with you and fight with you!!!! THE WAY THEY TREAT INMATES NEEDS TO COME TO A STOP AND THEY NEED TO BE EXPOSED FOR THE WAY THEY TREAT INMATES BECAUSE THEY THINK THEY HAVE SOME SORT OF POWER OVER THEM!!!! THIS EVEN GOES FOR THEY DEPUTIES INSIDE OF THE COURT ROOMS AS WELL!!!!
