The prison is very understaffed. There are no programs or very, very few. There are no educational opportunities or chances to earn good time due to the staff shortage. Unless Sterling and the rest of CO DOC are able to fully staff these facilities there will be problems ahead. As of June 8, 2022 all inmates are locked down at 6 pm due to staff shortage. I know that Covid has caused problems but at a starting pay of oer $50 per hour plus bonus you would think people would take the jobs offered. Maybe there are too many prisons and prisoners with ridiculously long sentences in this state. If they can't staff the prisons they should look at more releases. These conditions can lead to trouble quickly esp in the summertime. The Web site makes it sound so good and promising, the reality is not so good.
