You did not mention that the guards have trained attack dogs. I'm the mother of an inmate there, the officers have no concerns about the inmates' property. The $250 13-inch TV that I bought was tossed around by the guards while packing up to move him to another pod. BROKEN! $80 shoes, LOST? My son was attacked, then charged! Video that the investigating officer saw, and witness statements was lost. my son was found guilty due to a TECH ERROR! He appealed, but no one cared. I asked the eastern district to investigate the investigation officer. I haven't heard a word. My son accumulated points to put him @ level 5!! Which compromises his date of release. There are a lot of inhumane acts not being addressed at that facility, like having no water for days, the food is, I'm not sure what to call it It's the parts of the animals that are left over, from the farms around the area. I have called the prison, I have called VADOC, and I have written emails to VADOC.gov. If any of them read this, they will know who I am. I'm going to social media next. I, in no way, am saying my son does not deserve to be locked up (how he was found guilty is next) he broke the law and must do his time. I, however, am the one paying a ridiculous amount of My Money toward things that the guards get a kick out of destroying or could give a flying F about. I have spoken to two officers who didn't think they were above the law, who were respectful and tried to point me in the right direction. One was a lady and the other didn't have a thick country accent. they'll know who they are too. We are all humans who have bills to pay. I hope the Keen Mountain CC will think about that at their next softball game. Prison reform is A JOKE IN THE VADOC. I'm no where close to shutting my mouth. People gripe about their tax money going toward taking care of prisoners, but it's not helping any prisoners in VADOC, The guards are getting your tax money to do nothing in their job description. The people, I called about the guards, the same and so on.

My son is an inmate at KMCC. I must address your description of the officers "possessing non-lethal weapons inside the prison (which is extremely rare)" You didn't say anything about the officers having dogs, which are trained to attack. And how they use these animals to get a laugh. Giving a command to the dog, then holding the dog back by the leash just because they can. These animals are trained to attack, making them"lethal weapons". I bought a 13-inch TV for $250, which should be a crime, right there. An $80 pair of sneakers (not Nike") plus other items that cost an outrageous amount. They "lost" the shoes. During cell inspection, they go in, throw things around, tear up pictures, tear up important and legal papers, and break things including the TV. There was an incident between my son and another inmate which was caught on video. A hearing was set, and each inmate presents his defense and evidence. The investigating officer decides the outcome. Well, the video evidence, along with witness statements including the officers who witnessed it. My son was found guilty due to technical errors. He appealed, I was done with it all! I called every number listed for VADOC, and I emailed them too (A lot of things happened, between the first incident and the end). I was told that there would be an investigation into the investigating officer, by a woman who could only call me if I allowed a private number and I couldn't know her name..FINE BY ME! Next thing you know, he was put in "The Hole" awaiting a transfer?? They fed the inmates some type of stuff that was left over from the animals after it was butchered to sell the good meat, from the farms around the prison. I DARE A SOLE AT KMCC, OR VADOC to call me a liar! They know who I am, and I'm going to continue to advocate for the ones without a voice.
