The facility has been operational since the 1980s, serving primarily as a reception center for the state’s correctional system, to process and evaluate new inmates.

Security and Management

The NRC operates under the administration of the Illinois Department of Corrections and features high levels of security typical of an intake processing facility.

Legal and Visitation Rights

Inmates at NRC have rights to fair treatment under the law, and while at the intake facility, they have limited visitation rights until transferred. For detailed legal support and rights information, contacting a legal advisor is recommended.

Booking and Release Process

Inmates are booked upon arrival where they undergo a thorough intake process including security assessments, health evaluations, and allocation of IDOC numbers. The release process will depend on the final facility to which the inmate is assigned following classification.
