It is very difficult, as a mother, to visit my son in prison. His actions has consequences, and he has accepted his fate. I was hoping he would get opportunities to learn new skills. I want him to find a job when he gets out. When I read the overview of this prison I was optimistic that he would receive training, as well as ALL inmates. This has not been the case. Visitation is difficult because we can barely hear each other, and I desperately want to give him a hug. The lack of human contact is hard for me. COVID is under control and the prison is on green level. This prison has yet relaxed COVID restrictions while other Federal prisons have regained normal visitation protocols. Many of the guards are very helpful and respectful, but some make visitation uncomfortable. I get it, I have taught 40 years and when working with families it can get challenging. However, is it acceptable to made to feel like a second class citizen when visiting a love one? I am always very RESPECTFUL to all those that work at this facility, but that does not seem to matter. My son has told me he feels safe in prison, which I thank God for every night. I am happy he has a window to look outside. His crime has devastated our family and we are a tight family. He is a good person. He made a horrible choice and will serve his time. I guess I want to convey he is an individual that wants to move forward. I am a mother that wants to see her son prepared when he is released. We are people too!
