The inmates have no air conditioning, even after the unit was court-ordered to install it almost 2 years ago. In this Texas heat. Yet the pigs' barn has AC. And if an inmate collapses, the guard will ignore them or drag their feet to retrieve the fallen inmate. Guards have killed inmates before, with nothing but a slap on the wrist (usually sent to another facility at worst). They instigate fights among the inmates, and some have even falsely accused imates of attacking them, just to punish them more. Even when others step forward as witnesses that it was false, the guards always win their case. Rats have infested the kitchen and run over the food, but because there is always a warning (or someone passes along a message) that there's going to be an inspection, it always looks nice for that. The ceiling is covered in black mold and collapsing in places. It's cruel and inhumane punishment, which goes against the constitution. There's supposed to be some kind of reformation of the inmates going on, to help them stay out of jail when they get out, but it seems more like it's just to torture those who are locked up.
